Climate
Passive strategies
We start from the site’s actual climate to design with it, not against it.
kWh/m²
Solar radiation and daylight
We quantify the solar energy captured by each façade and each opening.
NZEB
Up to nearly zero energy
From improving a skylight to a nearly zero-energy building.
What it is
Knowing how a building performs before investing in it
An energy efficiency study analyses a building’s thermal and lighting performance to support better design decisions. It can be carried out at design stage, for a new build or a competition, or on existing buildings ahead of a refurbishment.
Unlike the energy performance certificate, which rates the current condition for selling or letting, the study is a design tool: it compares alternatives and tells you which ones pay off.
It helps you
- Reduce heating and cooling demand.
- Choose insulation, windows and systems on an informed basis.
- Make better use of daylight and sun on each orientation.
- Prioritise the improvements with the best cost-to-savings ratio.
- Prepare an energy retrofit or apply for grants.
What we study
Three approaches that can be combined
We tailor the scope to the purpose of the commission, from a specific query to a full energy model.
Climate study and passive strategies
We analyse humidity, temperatures, ground temperature and other site parameters, and assess which passive strategies are most useful.
Solar radiation and daylighting
We check which façades and orientations capture the most energy and how many kWh/m² enter through each opening.
Energy demand and consumption
We size insulation and airtightness, propose active systems and model annual energy performance.
What you get
A clear report for data-driven decisions
You receive a detailed report with the diagnosis, the alternatives studied and their energy impact, so you know what effect each design decision will have on the finished building or what improvements a refurbishment really delivers.
If you then want to put the improvements into practice, we can draw up the project for façade and roof refurbishment or a full renovation and manage the works.
